The Strawberry Socks are such an adorable summer project! These are my 5 (nearly 6) year old’s very favorite socks. I have included a toddler size (40sts), small child size (48sts), and one larger child size (56sts) as well as two adult sizes (64sts & 72sts). For my 5 year old, I knit the 48st socks. For my size 5 ladies feet, I’d knit the 56st.

Written Instructions are included as well as a chart for the colorwork portion. The colorwork is very simple, so don’t be afraid if this is your first colorwork project. The key to successful colorwork knitting is to ensure that the fabric you are creating is as strechy as the regular stockinette fabric. Be sure to push your knitting along your needles regularly to avoid those visibly tight spots that colorwork can produce. (if you still struggle, consider going up a needle size for the colorwork portion.)

You may not choose to do this, but I carried both contrast color strands down the whole sock. (I didn’t cut the yarn after each row of strawberries.) I did this mainly to avoid having several ends to weave in, and it worked out very well for me! I was just sure to avoid any pulling or too-loose strands between the rows.

I have knit my socks using the German Twisted Cast-On, but you may also use a tubular cast-on. These are the only two cast-ons I ever choose to use for socks. They both produce a strong and stretchy edge.

These socks are perfect for a quick gift knit or just an enjoyable knit for yourself. I hope you enjoy knitting them as much as I have!
