For an even knit I suggest carrying yarn in the same way each time. I did main color on top and contrasting color underneath. Pictures later in the pattern of examples. Gauge is somewhat important so
your cozy fits an actual ice cream pint!

Written instructions supporting cast on for both DPN and circular needle for magic loop. Chart shows pattern to create swirl but after a few rows you get the hang of the pattern - the repeats!
