What’s in a name? In this case, it perfectly describes the mindful qualities that knitting this shawl will bring you. (Remember “Wax On, Wax Off” from the Karate Kid movie all those years ago?) That said, it’s also great to knit when your mind is elsewhere - maybe deep in conversation, on a Zoom call or even watching a movie. So, why call this shawl Stripe On, Fringe Off? Knit from one end to the other, the name speaks to the magic that happens after the very last row. Since not all the stitches are bound off, the remaining ones are just slipped off the needle. When unraveled, they reveal a lovely, light dusting of loopy fringe!

Designed for two different colors of fingering weight yarn, this shawl will take the entire skeins, and is adjustable to fit your skein yardage - approx. 400 to 467 yards per color, depending on the brand. And the colors? You can choose bold, high contrast colors, or perhaps a more subtle pairing. Knit in (mostly) garter stitch, the shape of this shawl is a very wearable triangle. You can wear your shawl as a cozy wrap, or drape it lightly over your shoulders.

MATERIALS:

2 skeins of different colored fingering weight yarn, approximately 100 grams per skein and 400 or more yards in each skein. A few examples are:

#1: BEAUMONT FINGERING (70% Merino, 15% Alpacca, 15% Silk - Sea Change Fibers by the Dye Project in colors Sur La Table (peach) and Lucinda (wine)
#2 SUMMER 2020 COLLECTION (Merino) by Good Witch Knits in colors Logwood (lavender) and Fallen Petals (white with speckles)
#3 TRAMPOLINE (SW Merino) by Knit Circus in colors Dive Right In (blues/greens gradient) and Media Darling (pale aqua with green/purple speckles)

24” to 32” circular needles between a size 2 and 5 - whatever will produce a nice, not too stiff, not too loose, kind of drape-y shawl like fabric. You know what I mean.
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
OPTIONAL BUT VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Yarn scale - so you determine how to customize your shawl to get the most benefit from almost every bit of your yarn. You can also use a baking or diet scale, a postage scale, etc.

APPROXIMATE FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
