This striped jersey is inspired by the all-time classic French sailor shirt, but a modern twist is given by some precious details: contrasting elbows and shoulders, side slits, nice edgings, and a lovely buttoned I-cord neckline. Use a classic color combination to make it the timeless item of your baby’s wardrobe or rock it with a zingy color for a modern, pop version!
This sweater is worked from the bottom up in rows up to the side slits, then the lower body is worked in the round up to the armholes. The front and back upper body pieces are worked flat; stitches are then picked up around the armholes for the sleeves so that the elbow patch can be worked in rows. The only seaming needed is at the underarms.
Work the Elbow chart in the intarsia method using a separate small ball or bobbin in B and twisting yarns around each other at color changes to prevent holes from forming.
