The Kostas was designed to evoke memories of summer, coastal towns with shimmering oceans and a specific coming-of-age movie, portions of which take place on a remote Greek isle and involve a pair of magical jeans… Airy, cool and drapey for hot summer days with a cotton yarn that will withstand all your trips to the beach, the Kostas is a perfect summer match.

This pattern is for the striped Kostas, if you would like to change up the thickness/pattern of the stripes or remove them altogether, focus on the measurement of the body rather than the number of rows detailed. The original Kostas follows a pattern of 8 rows base color and 2 rows accent.

The front of the Kostas is a few stitches narrower than the back to allow for a ‘pleat’ at the back neck for a better shape and fit. This is an optional design element, but I find it lends the piece a nice drape and swing in the back. To skip this step, knit the same amount of stitches in front and back and disregard the pleat instructions.
