I was in need of a sturdy bag to use for work. It needed to be durable enough to hold some water bottles, snacks, and miscellaneous work and woman necessities. This stuff can get a bit heavy and I’ve blown out two store bought bags already. I put a hole in one after just a few days. The other lasted about two weeks before I broke the strap. I decided the only way to get something sturdy enough was to just make it myself. This bag is perfect. It’s not huge so I can sling it over my shoulder, but it’s big enough to hold all my work junk without falling apart.

This pattern is extremely versatile and also beginner friendly. It can be made in any color combo or solid color you want. It can also easily be adjusted to make it any size you would like. This pattern is made holding two strands of worsted weight yarn together to make it a little more heavy duty. You could just as easily opt to make it with only one strand for a lighter feel if that better suits you. The guage also doesn’t really matter for this pattern. Just keep your stitches the same size. You can also add a button or zipper if you desire. That being said, I’m going to give you the pattern for my bag, but please adjust it any way you want. Now let’s get to it.

For this pattern you will need 2 balls each of Red Heart Super Saver solids in any two colors you choose. I used 2 balls of red and 2 of black. You will have a good bit of yarn leftover but you need the extra ball of each color for the top border.

I made my bag using a size I hook to achieve a tighter sturdier stitch. You can use any size to get the look and feel you desire. (I will warn you, my way is hard on the hands.)

Pattern Notes:
Entire pattern is made holding 2 strands of worsted weight yarn together.

The base is worked in a continuous round of HDC. I recommend having a stitch marker handy for this part. When you begin working the body of the bag, you will be turning you work every round.
