“Su e giù” is an Italian phrase which means “up and down”.
This shawl is knitted in two opposite directions: the work does start provisionally, the top part is worked bottom up, and the bottom part is worked top-down.
… Yes, that sounds like a tongue-twister… :-)

The ‘up and down’ directions of knitting are a peculiarity of this design, so I think this name fits well the pattern. :-)

The sample on first picture has been knit with 1204 yd – 1102 m of laceweight 50% silk / 50% Merino wool (798 yd – 730 m on 3.53 oz - 100g) and needles size 3.5mm - US size 4.

This pattern has been test knitted with lace weight and fingering, please take in account different yardage is needed using thicker yarn/larger needles.

The pattern has charts and line-by-line directions.

On download page you’ll find two PDFs:

  • Su_e_giu.pdf does contain the directions to knit the shawl.
  • Samples_Su_e_giu.pdf does contain pictures and specifics of all the test samples.

My biggest thanks to the test knitters for the precious help and the awesome projects! :-))

NOTE : the “Samples_Su_e_giu.pdf” does NOT contain directions, only pictures of the test samples, yarn amount, measurements and notes. There is NO need to print it to knit this pattern.
