My last collection for 2017, December Knits, offers three shawls designed especially for sitting by the fireplace and savoring your knitting time ~ Piste, Suede, and Black Frost. All three patterns have charts as well as full written instructions. Take time to enjoy just knitting quietly, and have a safe and happy new year!

The pretty heathered taupe color of my sample yarn reminded me of a soft faux suede purse I once had. I remember making swirls in the nap of the fabric with my finger, and I wanted to achieve a similar effect for this shawl. I am really happy with the result!

Unlike most knit/purl textures, this design has no pattern to work on the wrong side rows. You can make the right-triangle shawl any size, and work either from charts or the full written instructions. Note that the shawl should be blocked firmly lengthwise from the right tip to the bound off edge. (I used a blocking wire on my bound off edge.)

This pattern is most suitable for solid color or lightly heathered wool yarns that have good stitch definition. Use any yarn weight from heavy fingering to aran, with a fairly close-knit gauge.

Materials used for sample (weighs 147g):
Cloudborn Highland Sport:
3 skeins Stone Heather
