The cardboard structure is cut after the walls and roof of the gingerbread house are crocheted. The crocheted parts are used as a template to cut the cardboard. Therefore it is not necessary to make a swatch.

The crocheted house will fit over the cardboard house like a little sweater. It remains open at the bottom. Fairy lights can be put inside for extra decoration or you can use the house to hide sweets under.

The double front door has a little pocket in which you can hide a key or a letter from Santa.
