This cropped tank was born of warm summer days and a skein and a half of leftover cotton yarn. I love the lace detail on the hem, the scalloped edge it creates, and the unassuming beauty of the garter stitch neckline and straps.

Construction & Fit

The Summer Air Crop is knit in the round from the bottom up until the underarms, then the front and back panels are knit flat. The armholes, neckline, and straps feature a delicate garter stitch border. While this top is cropped (10” [25 cm] from underarm to hem, there are instructions for where to add length if desired.

Designed with 0-2” [0-5 cm] of negative ease built in, this top should gently hug your curves. If you’re between sizes, you can size up for a looser fit, or size down for a more form-fitting top!

Choosing Your Size

To choose your size, find your bust measurement below. Negative ease is already built into the pattern, so there are no calculations on your part!

XS: 28-30” [71-76 cm] bust
S: 32-34” [81-86 cm] bust
M: 36-38” [91-97 cm] bust
L: 40-42” [102-107 cm] bust
XL: 44-46” [112-117 cm] bust

3XL: 52-54” [132-137 cm] bust
4XL: 56-58” [142-147 cm] bust
5XL: 60-62” [152-157 cm] bust

This pattern has been tested in sizes XS-2XL. If you would like to test knit the 3XL, 4XL, or 5XL size and have a bust measurement between 52-62” [132-157 cm], you can send me an email at notyourgrandmasknits@outlook.com.

Choosing Your Yarn

My sample was knit up with King Cole Cottonsoft DK, a 100% cotton fiber. This yarn is so soft and is comfy on hot summer days.

If you can’t get your hands on Cottonsoft DK, be sure to find another plant fiber substitute like cotton or bamboo to achieve the same lightweight & airy feel.

For sizes XS (S, M, L, XL)(2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL) you will need 2 (2, 2, 2, 3)(3, 3, 3, 3) skeins of King Cole Cottonsoft DK or approximately 285 (355, 385, 400, 475)(490, 540, 595, 655) yds \261 (325, 352, 366, 434)(448, 494, 544, 599) m] of another DK weight, category 3 yarn.
