This is my first ever sock pattern. I have always wanted to design a simple potato-chippy kind of pattern that was easy like a vanilla sock but with a little bit of interest. I think I have accomplished just that with my Summer Break Socks.

How did I come up with the name? Well, I finally got around to finishing them over the summer while the kids were out of school and it just seemed fitting.

Shape:
Snug fitting, ribbed socks with a little bit of detail

Materials:
US size 1 (2.25mm) needles in preferred style for working in the round (or the size needed to obtain gauge) - If using a circular knitting needle, I recommend a minimum 32 inch/80 cm cable
stitch markers (optional)
tapestry needle

Yarn:
One skein of fingering weight yarn - The sample was knit in “Fairy Tales & Fantasies” from my hand dyed yarn company, Comfy Cozy Knits on Squishy Sock (80% SW Merino, 20% Nylon - 115 grams, 420 yards)

Gauge:
32 stitches = 4 inches / 10 cm in stockinette stitch (unblocked)

Yardage Requirements:
Approximately 235 y to 315 y depending on size knit. The sample was knit in a size Medium and used approximately 275 yards. Please note, I have added 5% to account for a small variance in tension.

Sizing:
adult small (medium, large)

Measurements:
7 (8 ½, 9) inches / 17 ½ (21, 22 ½) cm approximate foot circumference

Skills Required/Stitches Used:

  • magic loop
  • knit cuff down
  • twisted german cast on (video tutorial link provided)
  • k2tog/p2tog/ssk
  • slipped stitches
  • kitchener stitch (basic instructions provided - written)

The pattern is written for knitting using the magic loop method and assumes that you have an understanding of this technique. Your stitches will be split evenly between the two needles of your circular knitting needle. If you are knitting using DPNs, I will not be covering this technique in this pattern.

This pattern may not be redistributed or copied in any way. Finished items may be sold, I just ask that you give credit to my shop for the pattern. Due to the nature of patterns, this pattern may not be returned or exchanged. All sales are final.

Happy knitting!
