Shawls are some of the most popular items to knit for a number of reasons: Since they don’t need to fit a specific body in a specific way, gauge is not as important as it is for garments like sweaters. With shawls, there is minimal finishing involved (no seams to sew, not many ends to weave in), and they’re usually small enough to be portable--toss the project in your bag and knit on the train, in waiting rooms, on line at the bank, on the bus…pretty much anywhere!

With its simple stockinette stitch body and garter stitch border, Summer Storm is the perfect project to dip your toes into shawl knitting.

Skills Used:
garter tab cast on (photo tutorial included!)
yarn over increases
k2tog tbl (through back loop)

Notions:
stitch markers (2)
