This pattern is for an overlay mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.

This pattern includes full written row by row instructions along with details on how to switch colors mid-row, and a colorized chart with all the X’s marked.

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

You will need 2-3 colors of yarn - one for the background, another for the border & letters, and an optional 3rd color for the background star & dots, although you could also do those in the same main color as the letters if you don’t want to do mid-row color switches.

This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using all 3 colors, you will need approximately 2 oz of the background color, 1 oz each of the star color and letter colors, when using a worsted or aran (wt 4) type of yarn.
