Pattern requires 2100 size 8/0 beads

This pattern is based on a Vintage pattern by Erich Engeln – Model 36. I have re-charted it with modern symbols. The pattern was originally a collar. I have reworked it, changing it from a pattern knit flat to a pattern worked in the round to create a modern ponchette or shoulder covering.

If you wish to do this for yourself - Check out my blog posting for more information.

Summer Whimsey is a light and fun summer piece. These versions are heavily beaded, but they would be equally beautiful without the beads. The beads are placed with a crochet hook through the body of the piece. For the edging the beads are pre-strung and crocheted into the chain bind-off. The small version used only one colour of beads and the larger used 4 colours of beads.

The ponchette was finished with a beaded crochet bind-off. There is a photo tutorial in the pattern for this technique. The bulk of the beads are placed with a crochet hook - the only pre-strung beads are in the bind-off.

Summer Whimsey was used as a painting with dyes class project for Mad About Ewe Fine Yarns and has been test knit by Fiona and the students of the class.
