Sometimes I think it is fun to dig into my stash, picking up a few balls just to see what I can make out of it:)
After having made my Kilians Sweater project I had lots of left-overs of all those lovely colors from Jamieson’s Spindrift. I picked a few, added one more, started to play around with the chart used for the sweater, all of a sudden I was making a little necessaire:)…

The necessaire is perfect as a special gift (to a dear friend, or maybe yourself…), it can be used for toiletries, knitting stuff (stitch-markers, row-counter, measuring tape, buttons….)
The shape is rectangular. You start working from a rectangular bottom made in MC and back-and forth, pick up sts along the sides and continue work in pattern and in the round to the top.
I strongly advise that you use the magic loop-method working in the round, the number of sts are too many to master using dpns.

Wool: I used Jamieson’s Spindrift in the following colors:
MC - Royal 700
CC1 - Blue Danube 134
CC2 - Aubretia 1300
CC3 - Nighthawk 1020
CC4 - Yellow Ochre 230
CC5 - Eesit White 120
If you have similar yarn in your stash, just go for it:)

Needle size. Use needle size to obtain gauge! I used needle size 2.5mm/US1.5, this is a suggestion only. You can use straight needles for the rectangular bottom, a circular needle, at least 60cm/24” long, for the stranded knitting in the round.

Notions: Stitchmarkers. I lined the necessaire and used a zipper as a closure. There is a short explanation on how to do this in the pattern. You will need 2 pieces of fabric, approximately 25 x 30 cm/10 x 12” and a zipper approximately 22.5cm/11” long.

The pattern: the pattern comes with a full chart and knitting instructions as well as a short description and a small schematic for the fabric lining.

Knitting skills Provisional (explained) or long-tail cast on. Working in the round. Stranded knitting following a chart. Under the tags for this pattern I have mentioned “Fair Isle” and “Norwegian”. As all patterning of the necessaire is a result of my own sketches I cannot really call it either Fair Isle or Norwegian. Furthermore Fair Isle is worked using 2 strands only. In my pattern-repeat of 62 rounds there are 4 rounds using 3 strands.
