This crescent-shaped shawl was designed to showcase your unique Zodiac signs! You can discover your Sun, Moon and Rising signs at the web address below. From there, choose your yarn colors based on your signs. For the sample shawl pictured, I used my daughter’s signs, which are Leo for Sun, Aquarius for Moon and Sagittarius for Rising. This design was created specifically for the Zodiac yarn collection by Sugarplum Circus, which features a distinctive colorway for each Zodiac sign. The sample shown uses the colorways Lioness, Aquarius and Sagittarius.

Lace and short rows are the primary features of this shawl. Since folks’ signs may not translate into yarns with a ton of contrast, and some signs may be the same (and thus require only 1 or 2 colors) there is no colorwork. Instead, each sign gets its own lace motif. These motifs are encased in stockinette and—as the shawl grows wider—short rows, which keep the overall length of the garment in check. This shawl has a flat construction with a garter and eyelet edge. The lace portions are charted and include written instructions.

SIZING

Length: 79” / 197.5 cm

Width: 26.5” / 66.5 cm

BLOCKED GAUGE

Gauge is important! If you think you may knit more loosely than shown, please go down a needle size to ensure you have enough yarn.

Lace and Stockinette Stitch (worked flat; stockinette stretches around lace when blocked):

22.5 sts and 32 rows = 4” / 10 cm

NEEDLES

Needle size is a suggestion. Use the needle size that achieves gauge for you. For a smaller shawl, go down a needle size or two.

Size US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles

Needle length is a personal preference, but it is recommended to start with a length of 16” / 40 cm, graduate to 32” / 80 cm for the middle sections, and then graduate to 60” / 150 cm as needed.

Size US 6 / 4.0 mm needle

Use for the bind-off only. Can be any length.

Optional: Size US 3 / 3.25 mm needle

Use if you are unsure whether your gauge will be accurate or if a smaller shawl is desired.

YARDAGE

Note that this shawl uses the majority of each skein of yarn, so it is important that you meet gauge to ensure you will have enough yarn, particularly for the Moon Color. If you are at all unsure, it is recommended to go down a needle size.

3 skeins total of Sugarplum Circus Charlotte Fingering: 1 skein for the Sun Color sections, 1 skein for the Moon Color sections, and 1 skein for the Rising Color sections
