Sunday Morning Sweater
From today until end of day Sept 21, 2025, please use code: park15 for 15% off the Sunday Morning Sweater pattern and the rest of my ravelry shop. This is part of my memorial fundraiser for my mom, and 100% of profits from all pattern sales will go to the Vancouver Parks Board to maintain and enhance Stanley Park and the surrounding areas.
Meet your next ultra cozy sweater! This design is fun, engaging and has been the perfect combination of process and product knitting for me. I hope you enjoy it too!
This sweater is worked in the round from the top down. I have included 16 sizes, lengths are customizable to the individual knitter.
The neck band is cast on first, and ribbing worked. We then move in to German short row shaping for the neckline. Raglan increases are worked to the sleeve split. Sleeve stitches are put on cords/scrap yarn and the body is finished in the round, before sleeve stitches are picked up. Sleeves are then worked in the round, incorporating decreases for a tapered fit.
Some of the instructions are for all sizes and some are size specific. These are outlined clearly and headings for each part of the pattern are large and bolded to easily keep track of where you are in the pattern. There is some skipping around as a result of the extensive size range. Page numbers are provided for ease of finding your next relevant section.
I have included a number of tutorials as well for some of the more unfamiliar techniques in case a reminder or introduction is needed.
I recommend you make a swatch with your desired yarn(s) to test for gauge. A number of testers did go down a needle size to achieve gauge during the test.
And finally, this pattern was tested by a wonderful group of amazing and talented testers! I could not have gotten to this final product without them. Sizes 14, 15 & 16 remain untested at this time. If you would like to test one of those sizes please send me a message.
Here is some wisdom from the testers:
-Trust the short row section; it all works out!
-Do the short rows when you have no distractions, the rest of the sweater is super easy once this section is done.
-Removeable stitch markers are your friend!
-If you want a more snug cuff/hem/neckline go down one needle size for the ribbing.
-There are tons of yarn combinations to use for this sweater! It’s a great stash buster.
-“Just do it, the instructions are detailed and easy to follow - and the sweater is so cozy”
-For loose knitters, metal needles made the difference in getting gauge.
A note on choosing a size and Ease:
I am not a fan of suggesting ease for sweaters. Everyone’s body is different and everyone has different preferences on how they like their sweaters to fit.
As such, I have listed the sizes as bust/chest circumference measurements. This design accommodates negative, zero and positive ease beautifully.
To choose your size measure the fullest/widest part of your bust/chest. Once you have that number have a look at the Sizes & Measurements Charts (pic 3 in this pattern listing).
I have been comfortably wearing my Sunday Morning Sweater with 4”/10cm of Negative ease.
If you would like a more snuggly fitted sweater, 4-5”/10-12 cm of negative ease works nicely. Be sure to cross reference the arm circumference with your own upper arm measurement to ensure fit.
If you are looking for a tailored, easy wearing sweater, zero to 2”/5 cm ease would be perfect.
If you are looking for an ultra cozy, sweatshirt type sweater, try 4-6”/10-15cm positive ease.
Be sure to have a look at all the amazing project pages from the testers.
