Featuring an eye-catching sunflower motif, this granny square crochet pattern uses a combination of textured stitches to create a realistic flower design which can be used for a wide variety of accessories, from coasters and bags to blankets and beyond. A satisfyingly quick project that works up fast, this pattern is suitable for experience levels from confident beginners upwards.

You will need to be familiar with single, double and treble crochet stitches, and working into the front post. Written in English using US terminology, the pattern features comprehensive photo tutorials for the other stitches used which may be less familiar.

You will need:
-approximately 27m/30 yds of aran weight yarn. I used a total of 18g Yarn & Colors Epic (100 % cotton, 75m/82yds per 50g) in four colours: approx 3g of each of the browns, and 6g each of yellow and blue.
-a 5mm hook

This pattern would also work well if you prefer to use a different yarn weight (such as DK or light worsted yarn) or a different fibre (such as acrylic). This will alter your square’s finished size. When made using aran yarn, the finished square will measure approximately 13cm x 13cm (5 1/2 x 5 1/2”).
