Suggested needle sizes range from 3.25mm to 4.5mm. Cotton yarn is used, pick something washable, that will shrink a bit. The finished size of the bag should be just a smidge larger around than a cake of Three Irish Girls yarn.

I designed this pattern because I needed a project bag to carry my sock knitting to the park, one that could be washed (there is a lot of sand at the park), and that would be easy to put down and pick up. I wanted to be able to knit while I followed my kids around, and I wanted to be able to tell which project was in which bag at a moments notice. This bag fills all of those needs. The lace panel enables you to see which yarn colour is in there, and the bobbles are a handy place to stick your needles while you go push someone on the swings. The wrist loop makes it easy to carry while you knit, and the bag weighs so little that it shouldn’t tire your arm. The pattern is written to be done magic loop on a 40” circular.

This pattern was given to members of the Sock Yarnista group, from Three Irish Girls, for October 2009. It was available to purchase on their site until September 2013. It will be available exclusively from the designer as soon as the pattern is reformatted.

Other variations suggested by friends are to make the wrist strap shorter and clip a carbiner through the resulting loop to attach the bag to your belt loop. Or you could make the strap a lot longer and wear it over your shoulder.
