Make the most of gradient mini-skeins with this crocheted hat. Lightweight, soft and warm, the slouchy style is kind to your hair. No hat hair here! Use your favorite mini-skeins, or draw from stash. It’s a perfect stash-buster for those leftover sock yarns. Bonus: You’ll have a hat to match your socks!

The complex-looking fabric is deceptively simple to crochet. There are only two stitch patterns, and all the yarns are carried up the wrong side to minimize weaving in ends. The band is worked back and forth in crocheted seed stitch, then the ends are over-lapped and joined. Stitches are picked up and worked in rounds to the crown.

Sample used Cloudborn Fibers Merino Superwash Sock Twist
Mini Set (80% superwash merino wool/20% polymide, .88 oz/25 g, 115 yd/106 m each skein), Blue Jay Colorway. Note that this yarn comes in a pack of five mini-skeins and only four are used for the hat: magenta (A), light blue (B), denim (C), grey (D).
