Worked in one piece from one end of a two-colour gradient to the other, this shawl invokes the dappling of light through water and the movement of ocean waves.

The body of the shawl is knit first in an easy to memorise textured pattern that lets the start of the colour change shine through without being too busy. The edging starts at the midpoint of the skein, where the colour really shifts, and is knitted across the live edge of the body.

A whole new way to both blend and contrast the gorgeous colour changes of gradient yarn.

Skills Needed

  • Basic lace knitting skills: knit two together (k2tog), slip slip knit (ssk), and yarn over (yo)
  • Slipping stitches knitwise and purlwise
  • Picking up live stitches from an edge
  • Cable knitting skills - 3, 4, and 6 stitch cable crosses
  • Special increase and wrap stitches (instructions included)

It is recommended that this pattern is worked on one 100 cm (40 inch) cable needle to allow you to keep the body stitches live while working the edging.
