If you live in a climate that dishes severe cold, wind, and snow for any portion of the year, you need a cowl like this. It is slightly oversized to fit over whatever other layers you have on, and rigid enough to stand up on its own to cover your mouth and nose - perfect for skiers and snowboarders!

My cowl in the pink was made with Red Heart Mixology, and I find that to be on the larger end of the size 6 super bulky yarns. It made for a fairly stiff cowl (which is what I was going for). If you use a less rigid or slightly thinner yarn like the Caron Tea Cakes (still marked size 6 super bulky), you will get a slightly less stiff cowl. Still cozy though.

If you are changing up the size yarn and hook you are using, you can use any multiple of 8 (+1) and still be able to follow the pattern as written (though you may want to do extra repeats if you are using a thinner yarn). Happy hooking, and stay warm!
