So you’ve jumped on the bandwagon too; the kids want one, all your friends have asked you to make one, the grands would look so cute in one… and you may as well make one for the cat, the dog, ferrets, chickens, goats, goldfish and Chia pet while you’re at it.

You’ve looked everywhere for an easy pattern that won’t take hours to complete. You’ve found it! To add to the simplicity, this pattern is mostly worked in a continuous round so it will not have an ugly, visible seam running down the back or side. When this craze started, I didn’t have a pattern to go by, but I wanted to try my hand at it. As it just so happens, hats are my favorite thing to crochet, and I have at least 9.2 million designs floating around in my head at all times. So here’s my free contribution to the fad. Enjoy!

This is a beginner to intermediate pattern with detailed instructions. If you use the suggested yarn, you will get a beautiful self-striping effect. This pattern is worked from top down, using a salon quality elastic band (or not, your choice).
