Super Simple Slouchy Hat

One size fits most 20-21” head approx

Gage: 4 sts = 1” in K2,P2 rib slightly stretched

Approx. 150-180 yds

Materials & Supplies:
Any Chunky or Bulky Yarn
Approx 170+/- yards
Size 8 (5mm) & 10.5 (6.5mm)
16” long circulars
10.5 (6.5mm) dp needles
Sized for 20-21” approx. head
Sewing needle

Gage: 16 sts=4” slightly stretched on #8 (not too crucial) in K2,P2 rib pattern
Yarn used in photo is Marble Chunky. I have also used two strands held together of worsted wools or acrylics which makes for a little thicker hat. Note: stiffer heavier weight yarns will make for a stiffer hat; whereas softer yarns will drape more.
CO 80 sts onto #8 (5mm) circular needle, place stitch maker and join in round.
Work in the round in K2, P2 rib until 4” or so. Next row increase one purl st in the middle of each purl section row, making sure to twist stitch as to not show a hole (100 stitches). Change to larger needles 10.5 (6.5mm) and now work in K2, P3* repeat all the way until you get to a length of 7.5-8.5” (Hat shown is was about 8.25”. You can alter to suit what you like here). Optimum length I like is 7.75-8”.
Next Row: Still working in rib pattern as established, decrease one purl st, each section by purling two together all way around (80 sts). Now work one row even.
Now decrease another purl st each section (like above), all the way around. Work another row even.
Knit the two knit ribbed stitched together each section all the way around (you should know be in a K1P1 rib pattern). Work one row even. K2 tog, P2 tog, all the way around.
Leave 12” tail, cut and weave in ends.
