This small shawl starts with a lace pattern that is worked from the point up, increasing along one edge only. When you get bored with the lace, switch to the mock-rib pattern for a few rows. Switch between the two stitches as desired and change color when you want to create your own unique Surf’s Edge.

Please note: this is not a step-by-step pattern. You will be alternating between the two stitch patterns as desired, starting with lace and ending in mock-rib. The mock-rib final rows will provide some structure and stability to the shawl.

This shawl is easily adjustable to other weights of yarn. I recommend making a small swatch first in the mesh stitch pattern to make sure the hook size you select will still produce a nice fabric that drapes well. Please remember, that changing gauge will affect the total yardage needed to make a comparable sized shawl.

Sample shown in Sirdar Cotton DK one each in colors #0503, #0519, and #0516 using a G Hook.

This pattern was designed as Knitorious’ free crochet pattern for the 2016 Summer’s Last Blast Yarn Crawl. Many thanks to Siri and Kara for holding theshawl up for photos.
