Hi Folks!

Thanks for checking out the Surge Shawl! This adjustable shawl is a relaxing knit composed of garter, slipped, and crossed stitches to create playful textured lines, and it is a great opportunity to show off that gradient skein you’ve probably been saving for something special. As you knit, the textured lines will emerge from the top edge and wind back and forth, creating a series of waves running the length of the shawl. This garment knits up fast and is a perfect project to work on while multi-tasking.

Like this pattern? Feel free to check out it’s sibling, the Surge Cowl! If you buy both, you’ll automatically get $2 off at checkout. No discount code needed.

Note: This is a highly adjustable pattern with no strict yardage requirements. Feel free to use more or less yarn and bind off whenever you are satisfied with the length of your shawl!

Here’s a quick summary of the pattern based on the original sample:
Dimensions:
--78 in (198 cm) in length along the longest edge
--15 in (38 cm) in deep at the widest point
Yarn Requirements:
--Around 500 yards of fingering weight yarn used in the sample shown
--Designed for 1 color (gradient, solid, tonal, variegated, you pick!)
Needles:
--3.25 mm (US 3) needles
Gauge:
--24 sts by 48 rows = 4 in by 4 in (10 cm by 10 cm) in garter stitch after blocking lightly
Other Materials:
--tapestry needle to weave in ends

Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Reach out! I’ll do my best to respond back as quickly as I can. If I don’t get back to you right away, please forgive me! I probably have my nose buried in a book for grad school.

Special shout out to Surge’s test knitter, Megan! Thank you so much for taking the time to knit this shawl (and it’s equivalent cowl)! Take a look at her interpretation of the Surge Shawl on her project page
