Swaledale Socks by Bettina Cross

Swaledale Socks

The pattern includes instructions in German and English!

For these directions I assume you know how to knit socks. You choose the length of the cuff ribbing, your favourite heel flap variation and your favourite toes. You choose yarn weight, colour and try your gauge as you like.

The socks shown are size 46 in German which is 11 in UK and 13.5 in US. I cast on 52 stitches but you can easily adapt the pattern for thinner yarn.

Last February while in Yorkshire to visit family, we also spent a day in the Yorkshire Dales. It being early in the year, the vegetation was still sparse. But it is just this sparseness, the special colours of the landscape and the dry stone walls crossing the fields all around which are wild and beautiful.
In the little village of Muker we found a small yarn shop and of course we could not resist buying some yarn from there.
Back home I designed a sock pattern inspired by the structure of the dry stone walls.

Enjoy!
