A Sweet Shadow is a varietal of sugar maple tree; sugar maple trees yield sap that is boiled into maple syrup, and their foliage gives New England its riot of color in the autumn. Although different maple trees have unique leaves, they all share the same basic five-pointed shape. This wrap is based on that distinctive shape and shifting colors of sugar maple leaves in autumn.

The Sweet Shadow Wrap is constructed in five pieces, each worked from the top down, and seamed together. Each piece is worked in granny stripes, with centered decreases to form distinctive points.

The pattern sample is worked using a 5-skeins of fingering weight yarn held doubled, for a marled fade. However, the pattern works equally well in DK weight yarn. It’s a great scrap-buster, allowing you to use any combination of fingering and/or DK leftovers.

Size 1 will make a smaller scarf/wrap, while Size 2 makes an oversized wrap/shlanket.

Special thanks to my testers. All’y’all are wonderful, generous people.

Sweet thanks to all the people who purchased the pattern in the first weekend. Together, we raised $464 for AIDS/LifeCycle. You rock!
