Sweet Summer Cowl

Summer will be here. Yes, it will!

Warming temperatures give us the opportunity to enjoy knitting with lightweight fibers like cotton, linen, hemp and silk, among others. Many of the warm weather yarns are smooth work well with beads. Imagine my happiness! This beaded cowl is not only a pretty accent piece, but it will also help with chilly air-conditioned spaces.

Cerro is pima cotton and alpaca blended together to create a lovely soft, silky strand. You’ll also be delighted to discover just how easy it is to add beads to your knitting.

Enjoy two patterns for this beaded cowl. I’ve written it as a moebius cowl, which has a 180-degree twist, created at the join of the special cast on. Rounds of knitting grow from the center of the work to the outsides.
I’ve also added directions for a simple Infinity cowl, knit in the round and not twisted. The Infinity Cowl version is knit from a cast on to bound off edge.

Materials
One hank of Classic Elite Yarns, Cerro. 85% Pima Cotton/15% Alpaca. 150 yards.
This is color #7125 Watermelon. Approximately 14 grams of TOHO 6/0 seed beads.
For Pattern #1: Size 8 circular needles in a 47” inch length.
For Pattern #2: Size 8 circular needles in a 24” or 32” inch length. Stitch marker. Yarn needle.
Either cowl is approximately 4” deep x 54” in circumference with enough length to comfortably wear as a doubled cowl as well. Gauge is 3sts./in. after blocking.

Many smooth stranded sport or dk weight yarns may be substituted in this project. Make sure the beads will easily slide on the yarn.
