Swimming Pool Tiles
The Swimming Pool Tiles Baby Blanket features a modern geometric design inspired by shimmering swimming pool tiles. The wavy tile effect is created by alternating small and large stitches, resulting in a fluid yet clean look.
The repeating stitch pattern is easy to memorize, making this a relaxing project once you get into the rhythm. The blanket is finished with a simple picot border for a delicate, clean edge.
Yarn
The pattern is designed to be worked from a single cake of Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe, using the center-pull end as Color A and the outside end as Color B. This creates continuous color transitions without the need to join yarn.
For the sample:
Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe – 250 g / 1000 m (1093 yds)
Colorway: Paraiba Tourmaline (12)
Cotton Kings Sultan Solid – approx. 25 g / 100 m (109 yds)
Colorway: Optic White (01)
Two different Sultan Deluxe cakes can also be used to create stronger color contrast. Solid colors, self-striping yarns, and mini-skein sets can also be used.
For the clearest tile effect, choose yarns with long color sections and distinct color changes. Short or frequent color changes may make the geometric pattern less defined.
Size
Finished size: approximately 80 × 80 cm (31.5 × 31.5 in).
The blanket is easily customizable. Add or remove pattern repeats to adjust the width and length. For a different width, chain a multiple of 14 stitches + 13 stitches. Larger sizes will require additional yarn.
Hook & Gauge
Hook: 4 mm (US G-6)
Gauge: 23 stitches × 27 rows = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in)
Skill Level
Intermediate
The pattern is written using US crochet terminology.
Blocking
Blocking is highly recommended. It helps even out the stitches, smooth the border, enhance the definition of the geometric pattern, and achieve the intended shape and dimensions.
