Knit the Switchback Hat in heavy sockweight yarn, using texture-rich brioche, short rows, and two colors for a unique winter beanie. Skill level is roughly intermediate—you’ll need to be familiar with or comfortable learning short rows and basic brioche knitting terms and techniques.

Gauge is 22 sts and 48 rows over 4” of garter stitch. Gauge is important to the final size and fit of your hat.

The size Medium sample (blue) is made from Patons Kroy Sock FX in Cadet (MC) and Patons Kroy Sock Stripes in Coastal Stripes (CC).

The size Large/XL sample is knit in Patons Kroy Socks FX in Cascade (MC) and Kroy Socks Flax (CC).
