This pattern is for toddler mittens and is written for magic loop knitting. They are knit from the finger tip down. provisional cast on is used to create an opening for the thumb. Stitches are picked up at the opening to knit the thumb at the end. The thumb is shallow to make it easier to get the kids thumb in the thumb hole. The hand of the mitten is garter stitch and the cuff is twisted 1 x 1 rib.

The mittens pictured are made with toffee brickle Caron Big Cake yarn. I knit The yarn directly from the cake rather than separating the yarn into smaller balls by colour and let the colour of the mittens be whatever they ended up being. They coordinate well with each other, but the mittens don’t perfectly match (Pattern doesn’t include instructions for the colour so you can use a solid colour and make a matching pair if thats more your style). My thought process was if I knit a bunch of these mittens, then I could just grab the first two I find when I’m getting ready to leave the house with my child. Because chances are the mittens aren’t where I left them and I will have to dig through drawers, couch cushions, the toy chest, etc to find them. And the more mittens there are in existence the quicker I will be able to find two, right?

The pattern makes one toddler mitten. The front and back look the same so you can make two at a time or follow the pattern through twice.. or more.
