A gansey is a bit like a sonnet. A sonnet follows a strict rhyme scheme and specific structure yet is an endless canvas for creativity of language and meaning. A gansey follows a standard layout of patterns and construction, yet it provides a home for creative motif selection and combination of details such as gusset design, faux seam choice, neckline treatment, and more. I enjoyed the restrictions and design possibilities when I designed and knit my first gansey out of Green Mountain Spinnery Sylvan Spirit over a decade ago. Finally, a decade later, I’ve graded my design for more sizes and prepared a slightly revised design for publication. I hope you will enjoy many winters of wearing your own Sylvan Gansey.

Errata: The chart for the shoulder saddle has two stitches misplaced in the 2nd row. The cable twist on the left side somehow jumped a bit to the right - it should line up with the other twists on the left.
