SYLVAN VEIL
A rectangular lace wrap

A delicate fern-and-canopy lace, worked in fingering-weight wool
and alpaca, that opens into a soft veil after blocking. Worked
flat from the bottom up with a slipped-stitch chain edge, finished
with narrow garter borders.

The wrap drapes equally well as a stole around the shoulders,
loosely cowled at the neck, or wrapped as an oversized scarf. The
sample is shown in DROPS Flora “Dark Green”.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
45 × 160 cm / 17¾ × 63 inches, after wet blocking

YARN
175 g / 735 m (805 yards) of fingering-weight wool or
wool-alpaca blend. Sample uses DROPS Flora (65% wool / 35%
alpaca, 50 g = 210 m) in Dark Green. Purchase 4 skeins /
200 g to allow for tension variation. Any fingering yarn with
a matching gauge will substitute beautifully.

GAUGE
22 sts × 28 rows = 10 × 10 cm in lace pattern on 4.5 mm
needles, after wash and blocking. Tension matters more than
needle size — I knit tightly and most knitters will need to
go down to 4 mm or 3.5 mm to match gauge.

NEEDLES
4.5 mm (US 7) circular, 60 cm, or straights of the same size.

NOTIONS
6 stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking wires or T-pins.
