Though the colorwork motif used in this cowl started out as just an abstract doodle, after I swatched it, it reminded me of the spiky readout on a heart monitor, so naturally I turned to terminology for a heartbeat for a name for this design.

This cowl is worked entirely in the round, using two colors throughout. The colorwork pattern is charted only. Two skeins of the recommend yarn should be enough to knit two cowls, especially if the colors are reversed. (Note that the recommended yarn comes in both 50 g and 100 g skein. 50 g skeins were used for the sample.)

To knit this cowl, you need to know how to:

  • knit and purl in the round and
  • read and work from a colorwork chart.

A circular needle in a length larger than the finished circumference of the cowl can be used, as this will help to keep your tension a bit looser and thus more even.
