Tablet #16 -early accadian incantation
Yeah well, a tough case of influenza and “oldest stories” podcast playing me through 4 days of fever hallucinations resulted in this…
I found the incantation here: https://babylonian-collection.yale.edu/sites/default/file...
I don’t know anything about cuneiform, but comparing to https://www.britishmuseum.org/blog/how-write-cuneiform I came to the conclusion that the scribe really liked to dot his old akkadian equivalent of I’s with old akkadian equivalents of little hearts.
Anyway this scarf is a combination of “weird” cable stitching, double knitting, and intarsia. It helps if you are fluent in these techniques, and trust that tension will work out in the end.
Gauge in double knit: 10 X 10 cm swatch = 21 stitches X 27 rows
(due to rayon+cotton blends unblocked swatch is pretty reliable)
Needles: double pointed or circular needles to meet gauge (I used 3.3 needles).
Use smaller needles (0.5 smaller) for cast on.
Yarn: 3 skeins Onion (merino+cotton) black. 2 skeins Lang yarns Liza (rayon wool silk) pale green.
CAVEAT: i do not pretend to be a profesional knit designer, my designs tend to be oneoff’s and my patterns are are not testknitted by others, I just love to share my favorite designs and will probably do it for free if you ask me. That said, each pattern and their techniques usuallly takes months to develop. If you find any problems with the instructions please contact me, I will reach out when I’m online again.
