Blending new and traditional crochet stitches, the Ta’Homa Poncho is an interpretation of the Cascade Mountains – that spine of rugged mountains that bisect Washington state. The name comes from the Native American name for Mt. Rainier, which was also called “Takhoma” and “Ta-co-bet”, among other names. A warm poncho to keep you safe and cozy on foggy mornings while waiting for The Mountain to appear. Ta’Homa is for intermediate crocheters.

The Ta’Homa poncho takes approximately 1,200 yds (1,097 m) of the main sport weight yarn and 657 yds (600 m) of the contrast color. The contrast color can be sport or fingering weight; short or long color changes, or combinations of complimentary solid colors.

The pattern calls for a US G/4.0mm hook, or size to give you the desired fabric. A US Size H (4.5 mm) is optional for working the Catherine’s Wheel Wave stitch. Other equipment: Darning needle; Measuring tape; Locking stitch markers.

The poncho can be resized by making it longer or wider, using a different hook for gauge, or by using a different weight of yarn.

The stitches should not be too tight. If you are substituting a different yarn, pay close attention to achieve the desired fabric for the poncho
