This beret features climbing roses, with leaves and sprays of flowers, which grow towards the centre and eventually become entwined around each other. The brim is a plaited cable from which stitches are picked up for the centre.

Materials
• 4 mm (US size 6) knitting needles – one short circular and a set of dpns or a second circular (or you can use magic loop with one longer circular.
• 100g of dk or worsted weight yarn (200 m / 210 yards).
• One stitchmarker.
• Cable needle (not essential – you can do all of the cabling without one – for excellent instructions see Cabling without a needle – the sequel).
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Overview
The work starts with a provisional cast-on for the brim. The plaited cable brim is made long enough to fit comfortably around you head, then the two ends are joined, either with a three needle cast-off, or by grafting. Stitches are then picked up around the inside of the brim on a circular needle and worked into a central point.

Skills required: lace (easy), bobbles, cables, provisional cast on, three needle cast-off (bind-off) or grafting, chart reading (charts are written out as well).

Size
Unstretched, the brim measures 46 cm (18”), and will comfortably stretch up to about 66 cm (26”). Instructions are given for adjusting the size if necessary.
