the tartan project bag is the perfect project to then keep all your next projects!

this pattern is perfect for beginners knitters as it’s written verbosely, it has easy construction as well as coloured and grey-thoned schematics, is gender-neutral and comes written, charted and with some photos!

the tartan project bag is a cross-body bag with a thick shoulder strap and a modern design, that is constructed knitting the base flat, then working with circular needle to create the body, and back to flat for the strap. the use of surface crochet helps create the tartan motif without the need for intarsia or colorwork, and the i-cord edge adds that extra structure and colour. it’s finished by felting the bag and can be optionally lined and closed with a drawstring bag, zipper or buttons.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
• yarn: Super Bulky (5-6 ply), you can use any yarn that meets gauge - just make sure that it is 100% wool and non-superwash (gauge: 12 stitches x 18 rows are 10 x 10 cm worked in stockinette with 8 mm needles before felting)
• this bag is knit in 4 different colours, but you can use more or less to create a unique tartan pattern!
depending on how you’ll construct the bag, more or less of each colour can be needed.
• in Drops Snow (50 g = 50m) approximately:
Colour base: 70 g (70m)
Colour body: 200 g (200m)
Colour accent A: 50 g (50m)
Colour accent B: 30 g (30m)
Colour accent C: 50 g (50m)
(i-cord and strap depend on length you choose)
Colour i-cord is each 40 g (40m)
Colour strap: 70 g (70m)
for reference: with 8 mm needles you’ll work in the body circa 9 rows with a single skein; use this information if you’re planning to make a smaller or bigger bag! and for the vertical stripes you’ll need circa 2 g (2m) for each line, if you plan to use scrap yarn :^)

TOOLS REQUIRED:
• 8 mm and 7 mm knitting needles
• 40 cm cables and longer suggested 80 or 100 cm cables
• 8mm crochet hook
• stitch markers, scissors, darning needle, measuring tape
• a zipper or buttons and lining with a drawstring if you wish (written instructions and sew-along video included in the pattern)
