Taskmaster House Chart
Free download available!
This is a pay-what-you-want chart and can be downloaded for free with the code lint. The default price is set at €1, in case you fancy splashing out like Al Murray. I’m a greedy bastard (high-pitched voice) and I’m happy to take that money off you.
Of course, you can use the chart image in the gallery as a reference, but I strongly recommend downloading the PDF so that you’ll be notified of any updates or improvements to the chart.
The chart can also be used for crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint and other crafts.
About the chart
The chart features the façade of the main entrance of the iconic UK Taskmaster House in Chiswick, London, the primary filming location for the show’s pre-recorded tasks. The chimney can be omitted if you prefer a symmetrical design.
The motif can be incorporated into the stockinette section of a garment, accessory or homeware project of your choice, knitted flat. However, as this is a fairly large chart measuring 73 stitches × 97 rows, yarn weight may be a limiting factor for smaller garments: fingering weight or finer yarn may be needed for garments below a women’s size L, depending on gauge and the proportions of the finished piece. My sample has a finished bust circumference of 81 cm (32 inches) and was knitted mostly from 2-ply Shetland wool.
Techniques
You can use duplicate stitch for the smaller details and intarsia for the larger colour blocks, or use intarsia throughout, according to your preference.
The one exception is the red circular TM sign above the door, which is worked in duplicate stitch using upside-down V-shaped loops (ʌ) rather than the usual V-shaped loops (v) in the direction of knitting — a bit of cheating to avoid the circle being either too big or not round enough.
You don’t have to be a proficient intarsia knitter, but if this is your first time, it would be a good opportunity to get some practice while knitting your gauge swatch.
Please be aware that, because the motif contains long, straight colour boundaries, slanting/skewing caused by the yarn twist and tension differences at intarsia colour changes can be alarmingly visible when the piece is laid flat (see sample). However, the distortion is barely noticeable when the garment is worn.
Colours
For the colours and yarn shades used in my sample, see the PDF pattern.
Unfortunately, I didn’t keep track of the yarn consumption for each colour, as most came from leftovers from previous projects. The exception is the sandy colour used for the wall, for which I used approximately 13 g / 57 m (62 yards).
Your time starts whenever you’d like.
Disclaimer: This is an unofficial, fan-made chart depicting the façade of the house that has served as the primary filming location for the UK version of Taskmaster since the show began. The name “Taskmaster House” is used solely to identify the building depicted, as the most direct and recognisable way to refer to it. The chart is not affiliated with or endorsed by the creators or rights holders of Taskmaster. The chart itself is my own work; I do not claim ownership of the house’s design or any Taskmaster branding.
