Taverna
Taverna is a light-weight, relaxed-fit garment, intended for warmer-weather days and summer evenings. It features bands of stranded colourwork around the front, neck, waistband and cuffs. The design was inspired by a holiday in Crete, where I imagined this garment as an elegant and versatile addition to my summer wardrobe.
CONSTRUCTION
The garment is worked top down, starting with the back. Once armscye depth is reached for the back piece, stitches for each front piece are picked up at the shoulders and worked top-down. Once complete, front and back pieces are joined at the underarm and worked flat in stockinette until desired body length is reached. Stitches are then picked up around the front opening so that stranded colourwork can be worked in the round, around the front and waist. On the final round of the colourwork, the front pieces are seamed together.
Stitches for each sleeve are picked up around the armhole and sleeves are worked in the round to three-quarter length, with a band of colourwork around each cuff. The neckhole, waistband and sleeves are finished with a folded stockinette edge.
