The Tea Party blanket is a richly coloured blanket formed of 7 large hexagons, joined and a border added. All of the colours are represented in the central hexagon and then picked up in the outer hexagons. It is perfect for a new baby and is a design that will work as the baby grows - this blanket is equally at home wrapped around a precious newborn, draped over a chair or even used as a tablecloth. This is something baby will keep forever.

My starting point was a beautiful vintage plate and I designed the blanket to reflect the gorgeous florals often found on these pretty plates. The border of little triangles is a tiny nod to the the bunting that we often string up for birthdays, party days and just because days.

The yarn is Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK in various shades (precise shades and quantities are noted on the pattern). I used 17 balls (50g each). I suggest a 4mm hook, but you should choose the size of hook you would normally use for working with DK yarn. If you usually choose a smaller or larger size, please use that. Other yarns can be used, but quantities will vary and you may need to change the hook size.

This design includes back post crochet and simple embroidery. It is not a beginner pattern, but is more suited to intermediate level and above.
