Every year I like to knit a pair of mittens to give to each of the teachers in my children’s lives as part of their holiday present. When the weather turns cold, I give my kids the task of finding out the best color to use. Sometimes they discover the teacher’s favorite color, other times they’ve taken note of the color of his or her coat.

The teachers seem to love receiving a pair of hand-knit mittens, and my kids really enjoy being involved in determining how the mittens turn out. Plain or cabled, striped or a single color, they have definite ideas and input about the design. And, to my joy and amusement, they always keep an eye on my progress to make sure I finish knitting them on time.

This year my daughter and I came up with these beauties to give to her teacher. We hope she likes them. ❤

Notes

These mittens are knitted in the round from the bottom of the cuff to the top of the mitten. A beautiful cable pattern adorns one side of the mitten, while the stitches across the palms are worked in Reverse Stockinette Stitch.

Instructions for the cable pattern are both written and charted.
