Afghan body is straight stockinette stitch using colors to match the temperature range. I used black for the top, bottom, and in between months as well as for the trim.

The pattern for the stripes was determined by noting the high temperature for the place my child was the first year of life and assigning a color value to that temperature. I used weatherunderground.com as the source for the information.

I combined two LK 150 machines to create a 250 needle bed machine with two tension masts. I used Internet directions to make my own sponge strip rather than using two commercially available ones. I set the dial to 8.1 to give a fairly loose tension. I liked the lighter weight of the fabric produced.

The trim was made on my Brother 260 as I could not get a successful tuck stitch with this yarn on the LK. I used Diana Sullivan’s Knitted Scalloped Folder Trim, which meant I could weave the ends along the sides and then cover them. Tension was set to 6.
