Tempo Socks
Covered with both vertical and horizontal stripes, the Tempo Socks are an easy but engaging project to work on. Simple mosaic knitting is used so you’re only having to work with one colour at a time, making these socks a fun project for both seasoned sock knitters and complete beginners.
Sizing
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5)(6, 7, 8, 9)
Finished sock foot circumference: 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8)(8.5, 9, 9.5, 10)” / 15 (16.5, 18, 19, 20)(21.5, 23, 24, 25.5) cm
These socks are designed to be worn with 0.5-1” / 1.25-2.5 cm of negative ease.
Intended to fit a foot circumference of: 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9)(9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)” / 18 (19, 20, 21.5, 23)(24, 25.5, 26.5, 28) cm
If you’re between sizes I would recommend choosing the next size up, for example if your foot measures 8.25” / 21 cm, you would choose size 4, size 4 is intended to fit a foot circumference of 8.5” / 21.5 cm and result in a finished sock foot circumference of 7.5” / 19 cm. This means you’d have 0.75” / 2 cm of negative ease, which falls within the range for the recommended amount of negative ease.
To measure your foot circumference stand on a flat surface and measure around the widest part of your foot.
Yarn
This pattern requires two colours of fingering weight yarn. The amount of yarn required will vary depending on the size you knit and the length of your sock.
My sample socks were knitted to fit the shoe size UK 4 / EU 37 / US 6 and I used:
Main colour: Fingering weight yarn (45 grams / 209 yards / 191 metres)
Contrast colour: Fingering weight yarn (28 grams / 130 yards / 119 metres)
Suggested Yarn
Main colour: 1 skein of Beehive Yarns Audrey, colour ‘Rose Lichen’ (75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon) - 100 grams / 465 yards / 425 metres per skein.
Contrast colour: 1 skein of Beehive Yards Audrey, colour ‘Conker’ (75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon) - 100 grams / 465 yards / 425 metres per skein.
Needles
Main fabric: 2.25mm (use the needle size needed to achieve gauge).
Ribbing: 2mm (use the needle size 0.25mm smaller than the main fabric needles).
Use your preferred type of needles for knitting socks, e.g. 32” / 80 cm circular for magic loop, 9” / 23 cm circular, or DPNs.
