Tenenbaum is a thin, collared tunic worked in stockinette. It’s worked top down in one piece, first flat until the collar and placket is done and then you pick up stitches at the shoulders for the sleeves and work in the round. After you split the sleeves and body the rest is done according to your own measurements and preferences using a simple step by step equation. You finish the sleeves and bottom edge with a folded hem in a contrasting colour, the placket and collar are finished with an i-cord. Inside the collar you crochet a chain to reinforce the neckline.
The pattern comes in 11 sizes based on cross back width and you can of course make it into a tee instead of a tunic if you want.

On choosing size
Choose size mainly based on the cross back measurement:

  • Measure at the back from the top of one armpit cross back to the top of the other. You can also measure the cross back of a t-shirt you like the fit of. There is no ease for this measurement.
  • Then consider the upper arm measurement, the intended ease is approx. 2 cm / 0.75” but it works with an ease of 0-5 cm / 0-2”.
  • Finally check the chest circumference. If your measurement is more than 5 cm / 2” larger than the garment measurement consider choosing a larger size. If your measurement is more than 5 cm / 2” smaller than the garment measurement consider choosing a smaller size. NOTE: If you have a larger bust use your upper bust measurement instead (measure the circumference of your chest just under your armpits) to compare to the chest circumference and opt for a size with approx. 5 cm / 2” ease.

On the measurements of the schematics
The schematic do not have any measurements for waist, hips or full length since you make the body according to your own measurements and preferences. Below you find which hip circumferences and full lengths have been used when calculating the yarn amount for each size. If you have a larger hip circumference and/or want a longer tunic than these measurements consider using the yarn amount for a larger size.

I do recommend you use a yarn with some wool in it. The elasticity of the wool will help the garment keep its shape when worn.

GAUGE 28 sts x 40 r = 10x10 cm / 4x4” on a 2,5 mm (US 1,5) needle over stockinette after blocking.
Use the needle size you need to get gauge.

NEEDLES 2,5 mm (US 1,5) circular needle 60-120 cm / 24-47” long depending on what you feel comfortable working with + 2,5 mm (US 1,5) DPNs for sleeves and i-cord.
Any needle 1 size larger than the main needle for cast on and cast off (optional).

TECHNIQUES decreases and increase right/left, yarn over, German short rows, i-cord.

NOTIONS 8 removable markers (one unique for beginning of round), tapestry needle, scrap yarn,
