Tennyson the Sheep
UPDATE! All-knit and all-crochet versions coming end of July 2026! They will be included with the purchase of this pattern! Thanks so much for your interest and support!
Tennyson the Sheep is a small bag charm/keychain
worked using both knitting and crochet
techniques. He is knit/crocheted in pieces
and seamed together. You will sew up the body and then sew the curls, head, legs, and loop to the body before closing up the base. Ends are used as stuffing, so there isn’t too much weaving in of ends on this one. The pattern includes both photo and video tutorials to help guide you through construction and assembly.
Crochet techniques:
-Single crochet +increases/decreases
-Working flat and in the round
-Magic loop
-Slip stitches
-Chaining
-Single crochet seaming
Gauge:
Crochet - 6 rows & 4.5sts in 1” using fingering
weight held double and US F crochet
hook (worked flat)
Knit - 12 rounds & 10 sts using fingering weight
yarn and US 0 knitting needles (worked
in the round)
Yarn:
Fingering weight yarn in two colors
(Color A for the body, base, and curls -
Color B for the legs, head, ears, and
hanging loop)
Recommended yarn is
Sonder Yarn Co Sunday Morning 4-Ply.
Yardage Requirements:
-Color A: 240 yards
-Color B: 40yards
-Scraps of laceweight yarn in white and
black (for embroidering the eyes). If
preferred, you can use premade eyes,
beads, etc.
Yarn A is held double throughout.
You can choose to substitute with DK
weight yarn or fingering +
mohair/suri. You’ll need 120 yards of
DK. If using DK for Color A, note that DK weight has a lot of variability and you may need to make additional large curls to fill in gaps.
An extra 10% is added to yardage requirement to account for swatching and a little extra just incase!
