Tentacle!
Why not continue the stream of Beastie hats by adding a wearable tentacle to the collection? The inspiration came from fanaticism for my local hockey team, but doesn’t everyone want a tentacle head?? Use your most imaginative colors and enjoy the fun of a great mythical beastie sprouting from your noggin!
Being mostly a style of stocking hat, this one is knitted from the hem to the tip and a few options for detail/decoration are added along the way for your choosing. Check out the tips page for other options. Zhuzh it up and make it your own!
Sizes:
The finished sizes are roughly 16 (18, 20) inches, and should fit a fairly large range of heads. The largest size fit my husband’s 24” head without discomfort!
Materials:
I used Berroco Vintage Chunky yarn for most samples, but you can use any yarn that gives you the listed gauge. I would recommend a yarn that’s more lofty than dense as the long hat can get a little heavy, as far as hats go, and if you have a little less “density”, it will help. There are instructions included for working the suckers in lighter weight yarn if that’s what you would like to do. You will need less than a skein of yarn for the suckers, but will likely need 1-2 skeins of a bulky yarn to make the hat (You may be able to get away with one skein for the smallest hat).
Needles and Notions I used:
US 7 / 4.5mm 16” circular needle
US 8 / 5mm 16” or longer (for magic loop) circular needles for the hat and preferred needle-type of this size for working small circumferences in the round.
Note: If you use dpns for sucker option 1A, you may want two sets of dpns (or 6-7 needles of the same size).
Stitch markers, yarn needle, crochet hook for picking up sts (close to size of needle used for hat).
Optional: small amount of a third yarn for pinstriping, paper scissors, removable markers or safety pins for sucker placement aids.
