DESIGN NOTES
The Terrapin Sweater is my unofficial design for Rhinebeck 2026 and named by my son, Bowie, who thought the textured stitches looked like the shell of a diamondback terrapin – a turtley awesome connection that felt especially fitting since terrapins are native to New York.

My sample is knit in Sawkill Farm 3 Ply Worsted, a beautiful local wool from Red Hook, New York, making Terrapin a perfect fit for the Hudson Valley Textile Project’s Rhinebeck Sweater Local Wool Pledge. Woolly, textured, and made for crisp fall days at the sheep and wool festival.

This sweater is a seamless raglan pullover worked from the top down. The neckband is worked first in 3x3 Rib. German Short Rows are worked within the ribbing to raise the back neck for a comfortable fit.

After neck shaping is complete, the yoke is worked in the round in a textured stitch. Three-stitch stockinette raglans separate the front, back, and sleeves. Body and sleeves are worked separately in the round from the underarm down. Please read through the entire pattern before beginning.

US 8/5 mm circular needle (32”/80 cm to 40”/100 cm) for the
body, plus your preferred needles for knitting small circumferences.
US 7/4.5 mm circular needle (32”/80 cm to 40”/100 cm) for
neck ribbing and cuffs, plus your preferred needles for knitting small circumferences. Adjust needle sizes as needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE
17 sts and 24 rnds = 4 inches / 10 cm in Textured Stitch using larger needles, blocked

9 stitch markers (8 for raglans and 1 distinctive marker for BOR)
