I designed this blanket pattern for our stand at Wonderwool Wales 2018. I wanted a pattern that would be easy enough for a novice knitter to start but with some more complex elements for more advanced knitters. There are eight different squares all designed around the same tiles or patchwork layout but knitted in different ways. Knitters could just knit easy garter stitch squares or follow our schematic and knit all the different squares. The squares include plain garter stitch, corner to corner, mitred centre, outside-in, fairisle (two designs) mosaic and cable.

The blanket measures approximately 105 x 145 cm and is knitted in WYS Wensleydale Gems DK and Wensleydale Fleece DK (100g/225m). I used four skeins each of three colours (12 skeins in total) -- Fleece 001 Ecru /cream and Gems 385 Jadeite/blue & 236 Amazonite/green. Gems yarn really blooms after washing and the colours are amazing.

Any DK can be used but size and yarn quantities might differ. So long as the squares are all the same size as each other it won’t matter if they are slightly bigger or smaller than mine but it will really show if the squares are different sizes to each other. I recommend washing and blocking the squares as you go along as it makes the job much easier and the blanket would be difficult to wash and block when finished as it is quite big.

I used a 3.5 mm circular needle or size to achieve tension I used a circular needle out of preference but straights and dpns could be used for all except blanket edging which uses a long circular.
